Tips for applying your own Bridal Makeup

Hi everyone, Julz here. Is your Wedding Day fast approaching and would like some guidance on applying your makeup for the day? Here are some tips for achieving that perfect look!

Firstly, ensure you have makeup free & clean skin.

Now before gathering all of your makeup together, ask yourself ‘Is this quality & lasting makeup?’ Last thing you want is to be retouching every 10 minutes throughout the day. I recently did make up for a bridal party at 5.30am and around 9.15pm received a text saying ‘Biggest day of my life, makeup looked great, we loved it n it lasted. Thanks so much!’ That was using napoleon makeup with some Mac. Quality matters.

Skin:
You’re ready for action. Apply some moisturiser or primer to your face, giving it a good base for makeup. Apply Foundation all over, then setting with a powder. This reduces foundation lines and shine. Add a bit of bronzer to neck and cheeks, depending if you want a bronzed look. If not, stick with the blush only.

Eyes:
Using a pencil lightly fill in your eye brows.
Now the eyes, always very exciting! Are you going for that natural glowing look?
If so, using shadows like White, Gold, Pink, Brown and some Black, can work wonders.
Try and go for more matte then shimmer shadows as the last thing you want is big shinny eyes on the day and not to mention, it doesn’t come out the best in photos. Using the lightest colours starting on the inner eye lid, working your way out to the darkest colour over the whole lid (blending them all in slightly with each other).

If you are going for a Smokey look, using colours like White, Silver, Blue, Black or Brown, are a good choice. Apply the same technique as above. Some white shadow goes nicely under the eye brow too (remembering to blend!) Finally curl your lashes, apply some ‘Waterproof’ mascara and lashes, if desired!

Just remember this takes practice so keep at it, don’t be afraid to try different colours!

Blake and Carlie Pre-Wedding Shoot

I just thought I would share some photos Isaac and I took the other day from a pre-wedding photoshoot with Blake and Carlie.

The photos were for their wedding reception so we went down to the Benowa Botanical gardens early one morning and took the following photos for them!

We both look forward to Blake and Carlies special day as they are a wonderful couple with lots of love!

Hi, guys. Isaac here again.

As we have just booked 3 weddings in the last week-and-a-bit, I thought I'd celebrate by posting a new blog entry, just for you, our anonymous blog readers! Never missing an opportunity for hyperbole or an eye-catching headline, today's blog entry is titled "Get the wedding you want in 4 steps".

Like most things in life, having all the information available, and advance planning is the key to success. Choosing the right tool for the job doesn't hurt, either :)

For these reasons, and not-at-all because Daniel's web programming is nearly as good as his photography, we have created the Wedding Packages page, which allows you to completely customise your wedding photography requirements. We had thought about offering a few wedding packages at different price points, as seen by other wedding photographers, but we preferred the 'create the package you want' rather than the 'try and find one that fits best' approach.

So, without further ado, here goes...

Step One: Select Photographers

We'd love to shoot your wedding. Hopefully, you feel the same way. The big decision here, is one or two photographers. From all our previous experience, I can wholeheartedly recommend two photographers. We have a huge collection of photos capturing emotional wedding guests during the brides entry, first kiss, vow exchange, and other moments when a single photographer would obviously be looking at the bride and groom.

If that's not enough reason, getting twice as many photos doesn't sound too bad either. A second photographer also speeds up your posed photographers, as people-organising can take a suprising amount of time with one person. Because we feel so strongly about this, we have heavily discounted the price of adding a second photographer to the package, he costs less than half of the price of the original photographer.

Step Two: Wedding Makeup and Hair

You are going to have these photos forever. And, they are the only photos you will still be looking at years from now. You need amazing makeup and hair. Just last weekend, one of our bridal clients had a makeup and hair trial with Julieanne and Tonia. A text message i receieved later that night from the client read "lovely ladies did hair n makeup trials tonight, gr8 work!", the client was over the moon with how perfect it was. Unfortunately I wasn't able to make it there, to get photos to share with you. I can't possibly quantify the confidence boost the bride-to-be gets after a trial, it's the best feeling!

Step Three: Wedding Album

This is actually suprising, and after speaking to other wedding photographers, this seems to be a general trend in the industry, with many clients choosing to go without. I've asked some of our clients who chose to go album-less about their choice, and the answer is often along these lines: "our married friends got an album, and have only looked at it once since getting delivered, but see the photos regularly on their wall and computer". This is not a problem, as an album can always be made at a later date (anniversary, anyone?) as we always keep a copy of all your photos. I still, personally, think that there is something very special about a wedding album.

Step Four: Further personalisation

After this, our quote-machine can do no more, and we take over :)

This involves, organising a date and location for the pre-wedding shoot, dates for the makeup and hair trials, as well as any special requests with regards to hair and makeup (lashes, hair extensions, tans etc), organising a visit to the wedding location, and getting to know you.

Hi guys,

We are mid-way through our move to a new website design, which you may have not noticed, unless you have been married multiple times in the last 3 years, or really, really like planning ahead! We have had some major improvements in the last twelve months, and decided it was time for a new website to reflect that.

The most obvious change for clients is that we offer complete packages including Hair and Makeup, with Napoleon-trained professional makeup artist, Julieanne Edwards, and the very awesome Tonia Kyczynski, who is so popular, that she recently had a group of clients from Sydney pay for her flights and accomodation, so that she could visit for a 2 day "haircut holiday". She should be flying back down soon, for anybody interested!

Back on topic, one other website area we have spent a lot of time with is the "packages" page, which allows clients to plan their own wedding packages, featuring everything from "single photographer" to "multiple photographers, full hair and makeup, wedding album, and more!". We didn't make allowances for two-week-long weddings, or weddings that are so far away, we need our passports to get there, so it is only an estimation.

As people-photographers, we obviously love getting to know our clients, however, we also wanted a way for you to get to know us, before you... um... get to know us, in person. The best solution, we thought, was to create a blog. Our goal is to keep to a professional standard for the website, but keep the blog much more personal and expressive, allowing you to get a feel for us, before we ever meet in person.

Over the next few weeks, we should have a few blog entries helpful for couples planning their wedding, including an article on wedding makeup from Julieanne, a wedding package breakdown including recommendations, and some photos from our recent pre-wedding shoot with Blake and Carlie.
